Hey hey hey
Hey, hey, hey
I have decided, if it matters, not to make this newsletter weekly. Some of you may have noticed this, others of you may simply be wondering vaguely where the unsubscribe button is. Fear not my children, the lack of schedule for this bad boy means it will always be like a happy little surprise in your inbox. A happy little surprise that hopefully makes you question your existence a little bit.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW
Boy oh boy do I have some secret sauce for you. Once again this ‘list is weighted heavily towards the past, because I quite frankly do not believe I should be asked to keep up with this new thing where artists put out a new album every year and it feels like homework to sift through eight tracks that could’ve been cut just to find one that i’ll listen to five times then forget about. And also, since we’re constantly being bombarded by the algorithm with new mediocre pop garbage, the only way to resist is to close your eyes, think of home like Dorothy, and let this playlist bang.
We’ve got a hall-of-fame mom song by young Mac Miller, we’ve got a country song by someone with face tattoos, we’ve got Lil Baby and Gunna rapping about messing up a good thing. If that sounds a little hardcore don’t even worry because for some reason i also threw in the smooth indie acoustic sounds of Gregory Alan Isakov on there (classic annoying indie artist name). But it works i swear.

Movie Of The Week(ish)
Sometimes you may find yourself thinking “i want sweet action but also romance?” An all time great love interest? Maybe even a classic feel and some art movie self-immolating hero stuff.
I’ve got good news for you, sweet choild. And it’s spelled Grosse Pointe Blank.
More Words (Oh God)
For some reason I’ve been watching a lot of inspiring movies recently. The Rookie, Free Guy, The Matrix: Resurrections. All good movies (fight me) about taking stock of things, and stepping out, and doing what you damn well please. It’s sort of annoyingly like someone is trying to get my attention. Well it’s definitely not gonna work.
I wonder how many of us are feeling the same kind of way. Post pandemic, stuck in a funk, floating or stalling out. We all have our reasons: past stuff, the demands of our schedule, modernity, constant screen time. I hate to say it, but i guess i have to: i’ve been letting my life go by. And darn it, i’m not gonna keep doing that. Life is too short to spend working somewhere you don’t want to, or making excuses about how there are no good guys in your city, or sitting on your phone instead of going outside.
This is where some people might be tempted to make grand promises about All The Good Things Ahead. But i don’t know if they are! And i really honestly don’t care. Life is unpredictable, and that’s why you have to go for it. You don’t know what’s gonna happen, but you can go on a hike when you have free time. She might say no, but you can still ask her out and see. Doing fun, adventurous things is the point, not how it turns out.
In the words of the email i once received from Bob Goff, “life is not a business trip, it’s an adventure.”
Xoxo,
B
